Things To Do During the Holidays



With the arrival of December comes many local area events taking place on behalf of the upcoming holidays. If you’re planning a trip to the area soon make sure you take in as many of these events as you can. On the other hand, if you want to just kick back and relax, you can do that too and we have a large selection of Holden Beach oceanfront holiday rentals for you to choose from.

The Shallotte Christmas Parade takes place from 10-11:30 a.m. on December 6 starting on Main Street in Shallotte. This event is fun for the entire family. Roads will begin closing on Dec. 6 around 8:30 a.m. and remain closed for the duration of the parade.

Christmas at the Sunset Bridge in Sunset Beach NC

On Monday, December 8 from 6-8 p.m. the annual Christmas at the Old Sunset Beach Bridge will take place. It’s a magical, musical evening that you shouldn’t miss. Come enjoy soloist Linda Ladrick, The Belles hand bell choir, and the Soaring Angels, directed by Kathryn Parker of Seaside United Methodist Church. Afterwards there will be a community sing-a-long. Light refreshments will be served. Admission for the event is free. The Old Bridge is located at 109 Shoreline Drive West, Sunset Beach, NC. For more information call 910-363-6568.

The Laser Holiday Show at Ingram Planetarium takes place weekly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4-5 p.m. through January 3, 2015. This event is free for members. Non-member price per show is $8 adults, $7 seniors, $6 children (3-12) and free for those under age 2.

12 Tastes of Christmas in NC

Back by popular demand the 2nd Annual 12 Tastes of Christmas will take place at the Brooklyn Arts Center in Wilmington from 7-10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12. This all-inclusive benefit features 12 food and drink pairings, music and more – all in the spirit of the season. Guests 21+ are invited to join CFLC for delicious delights. This event is sponsored by the Cape Fear Literacy Council. Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased at cfliteracy.org.

The annual North Carolina Christmas Festival and Parade will take place December 12 and 13 in Leland Town Hall Park, Leland, NC. The parade is from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Dec. 13 and will follow Village Road from the First Baptist Church to the North Brunswick Shopping Center. The Christmas Festival will begin right after the parade and last until 4:30 p.m. There will be food vendors, children’s entertainment, music and performances by dance troupes. Free and open to the public.

Southport Tour of Homes over the holidays

The Christmas Tour of Homes in Southport is always a popular event. This year it will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 2-7 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to tour some of the most beautiful homes in Southport, all dressed up in their Christmas finery. Pre-sale tickets at Southport Visitors Center, Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce, and Franklin Square Gallery. Proceeds benefit both historical restoration and educational programs. Please wear soft-soled shoes to protect the wood floors in these historic homes. Price is $10 per person in advance or $15 day of tour. Call 910-454-4327 for more information.

In addition to these events there are also plenty of holiday events taking place a short distance away in the Myrtle Beach, SC area. Definitely worth the drive to check them out!
